BRADFORD, WILLIAM. Autograph Document Signed, “William Bradford / Attorney General”, 1p, 8” x 8”, Bedford County, October Sessions 1781. Docketing to verso. Flattened folds with separation and paper loss, browning to top and bottom edges, ink splatter which mostly affects verso and the first “l” at “William”, else Very Good.

Bradford's court document reads, in full, “The grand inquest for the County of Bedford afsd. Upon their Oath & Solemn affirmation respectively do present that Justice Henry Knierim of the Township of Bedford in the County of Bedford afsd. Yeoman on the fourth Day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred & Eighty one, at the County afsd. And within the Jurisdiction of this Court, one Silver Watch of the Value of Ten Pounds Lawful Money Pennsylvania, of the Goods & Chattels of David Griffeth  Rachal Griffeth Lately Rachal Countryman then & there being found then & there feloniously did steal take and feloniously carry away against the Peace & Dignity of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.”

William Bradford (1755-1795) was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After graduating from the College of New Jersey (now called Princeton) in 1772, he studied law with Edward Shippen. Bradford fought in the Revolutionary War, serving as a major of brigade to General Roberdeau, and later was in command of a company in Colonel Hampton's regiment of regular troops. After this, he was appointed deputy muster master-general, with the rank of lieutenant colonel, and served for two years before his heath required him to resign. Bradford then returned to his studies, and was admitted to the bar in 1779. In 1780, he was appointed Attorney General of Pennsylvania. Four years later, he got married. A judge of the state Supreme Court in 1791, he served until 1792, when President Washington appointed him United States Attorney General.

All items will ship with signature required, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.
