Description:

Vintage LBJ Political Memorabilia, 5 Pcs, Including Miniature Ceramic Cowboy Hats!

A small group of vintage political memorabilia promoting 36th U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson (1908-1973). The lot includes two ceramics, two tie clips, and one lapel pin, all cowboy hat themed in homage to the Texan politician's trademark Open Road Stetson cowboy hat.

The lot includes:

1-2. Two cowboy hat form ceramics, one pink and the other blush, each glazed and decorated with a gilt presidential seal on the side of the crown and Johnson's facsimile signature in gilt found on the brim. The blush cowboy hat has a sales sticker reading "Athena Sales…Athens, Texas" affixed under the brim. The undersides of the crown are not glazed. With isolated glaze surface anomalies, else near fine, the gilt is unscratched and near pristine. Both cowboy hats measure approximately 7.25" x 6" x 3.25."

It has been suggested that these cowboy hat form ceramics were used as ashtrays, and indeed, a cigarette or cigar would easily balance on the cowboy hat crease or roll!

3-5. Three MPC manufactured souvenirs including two horizontal bar tie clips and one lapel pin, all featuring the initials "LBJ" crowned by a cowboy hat. Lightly tarnished, else near fine. The lapel pin measures .75" wide.

The ceramic cowboy hats probably date to LBJ's 1964 presidential campaign, when he faced off against Republican Party challenger Barry Goldwater. The tie clips and lapel pins could as well, or predate 1964, to Johnson's time as a U.S. Congressman and Senator from Texas.
