Rock 'n Roll

8" x 10" glossy color publicity photograph of Village People signed by six band members in black sharpie marker, circa 1980. In near fine condition, with a few minor corner bends. Comes with a copy of JSA Letter of Authenticity from group lot.

Band members include the Construction Worker David Hodo (born 1947) signed as "David Hodo"; the Cop Ray Simpson (born 1954) signed as "Ray Simpson"; the Native American Felipe Rose (born 1954) signed as "Felipe" accompanied by hand-drawn arrow doodle; the Cowboy G. Jeff Olson signed as "Jeff Olson"; the G.I. Alex Briley (born 1947) signed as "Alex Briley"; and the Biker or Leatherman Glenn Hughes (1950-2001) signed as "Glenn Hughes".

Manhattan-based talent agency TCI (Talent Consultants International, Ltd.) issued this photo depicting the Village People just after lead singer Victor Willis (born 1951) left the band.

The Village People was formed by French composer Jacques Morali (1947-1991) in 1977. Each of the six members of the disco group represented a stereotypically masculine persona / homosexual fantasy: the Construction Worker, the Cop, the Native American, the Cowboy, the G.I., and the Biker. The "village" of the group's title referred to Greenwich Village, which was a haven for gay men in the 1970s. Notable Morali-composed Village People hits included "Y.M.C.A." (1978), "Macho Man"  (1978), and "In the Navy", (1979).
