Description:

Sendak Maurice 1928 - 2012 Vibrant Signed Sendak ALS with an iconic Wild Thing drawing of Moishe

Single page ALS on beige paper with Sendak's personal letterhead, affixed to a backing board, 5" x 6.75". Dated "March, "68", and signed by Maurice Sendak as "Maurice". Clean crisp thank-you letter with an early drawing of Moishe, a Wild Thing. Near fine

A lovely example of a Maurice Sendak early signed letter with a fantastic drawing of Wild Thing, Moishe. Sendak made his splash into the Children's book genre with his beloved story, Where The Wild Things Are, winning the Caldecott medal in 1964. Although only 338 words in length, his story was one of the first to touch upon the "suppressed" but always present dark feelings of children. Sendak later commented that his children books were "all variations on the same theme: how children master various feelings - danger, boredom, fear, frustration, jealousy - and manage to come to grips with the realities of their lives. The characters of this story where based off his childhood observations of his relatives as being "all crazy - crazy faces and wild eyes".

Perfect for a Sendak collector!
