Very Rare Francis Lightfoot Lee War-Dated Autograph Letter Signed

A rare wartime autograph letter signed by Francis Lightfoot Lee. 1p, measuring 7.25" x 9", Philadelphia, dated June 2, 1783. A short letter from Lee addressed to Hon. Samuel Holter Esq., signed "Honble Francis Lightfoot Lee esq.", concerning the forwarding of a letter. Letters signed by Lee are rare in any form. With flattened folds, toning at the edges, and various ink spots and soiling. Seal holes at the blank margins have been professionally repaired. Two chips at left margin affecting one letter of text, else very good. Boldly signed. The letter was previously sold in 2016 for $7,200, Ex: Flayderman, Cowan's.

In full:

"Sir. The inclosed letter came to hand yesterday under cover direct'd to me. I did not observe the direction to you until I had partly unsealed it, which may account for the state the seal is in now, and you may be assured, that it gives me pleasure to have the honor of inclosing & forwarding the same. I have the honor to be, Sir, your most obedient serv't." 

Francis Lightfoot Lee(1734-1797) was a signer of the Declaration of Independence and a political leader during the American Revolution. While serving as a member of the House of Burgesses (the elected representative element of the Virginia General Assembly), Lee urged resistance to Great Britain, and he later served in the Continental Congress. His brother was Richard Henry Lee, another signer of the Articles of Confederation and the Declaration of Independence.

Applicable shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice. We offer several shipping options, and remain one of the few auction houses who proudly provides professional in-house shipping as an option to our clients. All items will ship with signature required, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.
