Union General Robert C. Schenck ALS

Autograph Letter Signed, "Robt. C. Schenck", 1p on bifold stationery measuring 7.75" x 9.75", Galva, Illinois, November 27, 1860. Docketed at verso. Accompanied by a 3.5" x 5.5" Decoration Day Post Card, "Grand Army of the Republic Veteran 1861-1866", in very good condition. Letter has expected folds and creases. Soiling with a few tiny stains. Pencil notations at verso from previous collector. In near fine condition. 

Schenck writes to his attorneys regarding the status on his lawsuit against Washington County, in part: "I am anxious to know what you have done, or are doing, in my suit on Washington County. Has the cause proceeded yet to trial, or judgment? It is a long time since I had heard from you. Please inform me upon receipt of this, directing your letter to Dayton, Ohio."

Robert Cumming Schenck (1809-1890) was a Union Army general in the American Civil War, and an American diplomatic representative to Brazil and the United Kingdom. He was at both battles of Bull Run and took part in Jackson's Valley Campaign of 1862, and the Battle of Cross Keys. He served two separate multi-term stints in the U.S. House of Representatives. Schenck was admitted to the bar in 1831. He moved to Dayton, Ohio and there rose to a commanding position in his profession. He was in partnership with Joseph Halsey Crane in the firm of Crane and Schenck for many years.

All items will ship with signature required, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.
