Description:

Ty Cobb Perfect ALS "I have been out of baseball since 1928", with PSA Certification

1p, measuring 7.125" x 10.5", Menlo Park, California, dated January 14, 1936. Signed Ty Cobb and addressed to a fan, identified as Charlie. A very kind letter from the former baseball player, reading in full:

"It has been sometime since I heard about you, the letter was misplaced until this time. I understand you are a baseball fan and know all the records etc. I have been out of baseball since 1928 as you know and until I retired I used to receive many baseball photographs but the supply stopped and the demand kept up and now I have no extra photographs, as much as I would like to send you one I can't. I do want you to know how very interest I am in you and hope you will be up and about so keep your chin up. If you can secure a photograph from some of the staff sport camera men of one of the Boston papers I would feel honored to autograph it for you. With every good wish…"

Tyrus R. Cobb (1886-1961), nicknamed The Georgia Peach, is remembered as one of the greatest baseball players of all time. He played 22 seasons with the Detroit Tigers and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936, the same year this letter was written. Cobb still holds the record for most home steals (54 total), and the youngest player to accrue 4,000 hit and 2,000 runs.
