Revolutionary War - Two letters written by different women during the Revolutionary War displaying business and patriotism

The first letter from a Sarah Kennedy reads in full, " Yellow Springs August 15, 1778, Sir, that notorious villain Joseph Melon that affrighted you and us at the While horse before the British - after his conducting them through the country finally went to them and inlisted [sic] Jacob James's light horse, Melon is now deserted from them and is to be tried at the New Cheston Court. I beg you and Mr. Climer will be there I shall be there and shall bring one or two witnesses with me to prove how ill Dr. Mr. Kennedy was treated, I depend much on you and beg you will not fail coming , my best compliments to your good lady, From your very humble servant, Sarah Kennedy."

The second letter is from Eliza Allen written on August 26, 1781 and reads in full, "Sir, I take the liberty of addressing myself to you, whose kindness I have already experienced. For your friendly assistance in a case which is rendered perplexing to me from the past distraction of public affairs. It appears that my Mr. Allen has surveyed for himself a tract of Barrens containing eleven hundred acres in Whitehall Township, adjoining land of Peter Traxell, Mr. Lardner, & C. and three hundred and seventy five acres joining land of Cresimore's a part of the last mentioned he has sold and received the money for; with a promise of giving deeds in three months after the Office should be opened. What I wish of you Sir is, to be so obliging as to examine their situation in the office and to prevent any grant of them to others until my return. When I will regulate the matter; there are a number of ill disposed persons ever ready to seize an opportunity of perplexing their neighbours, as these purchasers have made improvements and gone to considerable expenses, it would occasion vast distraction and distress, to a number of poor people, which will be sufficient I am convinced. with a Gentleman of your uprightness of heart and head, to prevent any thing being done till I have the pleasure of seeing you. When I will lay before you all my papers and proceed by your direction, A Line from you in answer by the Bearer will be esteem'd a very particular favor by your very humble servant Eliza Allen."
