Description:

Kennedy Jacqueline 1929 - 1994 Two handwritten notes by Jackie Kennedy, one on very attractive "ASK NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU / ASK WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY" letterhead

Typed Letter Signed "Albert L. Casassa" as Commander, The American Legion John F. Kennedy Memorial Post No. 287, 1p, 8.5" x 11". Langley Park, Maryland, May 6, 1969. To Mrs. Aristotle Onassis. With 40 word unsigned handwritten note by Jackie in upper right. Fine condition.

Casassa asks Mrs. Onassis for her "permission to bestow upon you, an Honorary Membership to our Womans Auxiliary, to Caroline as an Honorary Member of the Jr. Auxiliary, and John Jr., as a Honorary Member of the SAL [Sons of the American Legion]. You are all eligible, because President Kennedy served in the Armed Forces during time of war..."

Jackie writes a note to Dave Powers in the upper right, "What do I say? OK if hurts him too much not too - but cant you say if its named for JFK that is ewe feel we belong to it anyway - I guess we should let him join us you decide." This is from the Estate of David F. Powers, close friend and Special Assistant to JFK. Noted in lower right near Casassa's signature, most likely by Powers or his son, "White House Police."

As Captain of the U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division, Albert L. Casassa was in charge of 250 men at the White House and 350 men at the Foreign Missions Division.

Accompanied by a similar but unrelated unsigned handwritten note by Jackie to her personal secretary, Nancy Tuckerman, 1p, 5.75"x 3.5". In full, "Nancy - what is most tactful answer - I don't mind getting them & seeing them if it isn't imposing."
