Truman Signed Citation & Accompanying Award, Legion Of Merit, for Russian Soldier

1 p, measuring 8” x 10.25”, Washington, D.C., Ca. April 9, 1946. A typed citation signed, “Harry Truman”, on White House letterhead. The document is a Citation for the Legion of Merit: Degree of Legionnaire, awarded to Lieutenant Col. Semen I. Popov, Chief of Staff of the 98th Guards Infantry Division, Red Army for "exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services in connection with military operations against the common enemy. His ability materially aided the successful junction of Russian and United States troops at the Moldau River, near Pisek, Czechoslovakia, on 10 May 1945, and the defeat of the German forces." Accompanied by the original award certificate, 1 p, measuring 12” x 9.75”, Washington, D.C., dated April 9, 1946. With mechanical signatures of Major General Edward F. Witsell, Adjutant General, and Robert P. Patterson, Secretary of War. With Cyrillic notations in pencil at the top of both documents. Light toning and wear to edges. Small spot of soiling on the citation. Large and bold signature. Very good.

Harry Truman, 33rd President of the United States, led the country in the closing days of World War II following the death of President Franklin D. Roosevelt on April 12, 1945. He thereafter saw the country through the rebuilding of Europe and the Korean War. The Legion of Merit (LOM) is a military award given to members of the U.S. uniformed services as well as military and political figures of foreign nations in recognition of outstanding services and achievement. The award is one of only two U.S. military decorations issued as a neck order (the other being the Medal of Honor).

All items will ship with signature required, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.
