Truman Inaugural Medal & TLS to DC Attorney
TLS

TLS, Washington, D.C., dated November 2, 1951, on official White House stationery sent by Harry Truman and addressed to Honorable Charles M. Irelan, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. Truman expresses his appreciation for Irelan's note and offers well wishes for his judicial career. The letter features slight toning, with expected fold, but is boldly signed. The letter measures 7" x 9."

Accompanying the letter is a Harry S. Truman Inaugural Medal which was issued to commemorate his inauguration as the 33rd President of the United States in 1949. The medal features a left-facing profile of Truman, wearing his iconic glasses, surrounded by a ring of stars, and was struck to mark his full term following his first ascension to the presidency in 1945 after Franklin D. Roosevelt's passing. The medal is engraved with the artist's name, C.P. Jennewein, just below the Truman profile. The medal has not been examined outside of the frame and measures 2" in diameter and is framed to an overall size of 5.5" x 7."

The letter in full:

"Dear Judge:
I appreciated very much your note of October thirty-first.
I hope you will have as successful a career as a Judge as you have had in your other Government services.
Best of luck to you.
Sincerely yours,
Harry Truman"
