The sinking of the RMS Titanic occurred on April 15, 1912, claiming over 1,500 lives in one of history's most devastating maritime tragedies. The April 20 issue features a story covering the catastrophe on pages 27-30, primarily using promotional photographs of the liner and images of its most prominent passengers. The April 27 issue provides more extensive coverage on pages 31-38, including dramatic photographs of survivors being rescued by the Carpathia and their emotional arrival at the Cunard Line pier in New York. A striking two-page illustration titled "The Sinking of the 'Titanic'" adds to the poignancy of this historic documentation. The individual stories included in these issues are largely forgotten today, and the issues feature some incredible and rarely seen photographs that provide a unique window into the events surrounding the Titanic disaster.

Harper's Weekly was one of the most influential illustrated publications of the 19th and early 20th centuries, offering readers a compelling blend of news, commentary, and visual storytelling. Known for its detailed woodcut illustrations, political cartoons, and high-quality reporting, it covered major historical events such as the Civil War, Reconstruction, and international disasters like the Titanic sinking. The publication played a pivotal role in shaping public opinion, often combining gripping narratives with vivid imagery that brought global events to life for its readers. By capturing the cultural and historical zeitgeist of its time, Harper's Weekly remains a valuable resource for understanding the events and attitudes of a bygone era.
