Timothy Pickering (1745-1829) was a Massachusetts politician who served as Secretary of State under Presidents George Washington and John Adams. The printer, Enos Bronson (1774-1823), published the "Gazette of the United States" from 1801 to 1804, and published "The United States' Gazette for the Country" with Elihu Chauncey from 1804 to 1818. In 1809, he and others began to print "The Select Reviews and Spirit of the Foreign Magazines", edited by Samuel Ewing. The magazine was bought by Moses Thomas in 1812, who changed its name to the "Analectic".
