Authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA, the document features Pickering's bold signature and has been graded Mint 9. Some toning and foxing to document, scratching to slab. This signed document was executed during a pivotal stage of the American Revolutionary War. On November 7, 1779, Timothy Pickering was serving as Quartermaster General of the Continental Army, overseeing the supply lines that kept George Washington's forces provisioned during one of the most strained and critical phases of the conflict. The war had entered a global dimension following the French alliance of 1778, and by the fall of 1779 the Americans were stretched thin—Sullivan's campaign against the Iroquois had just concluded in the north, while the British were consolidating their power in Georgia and preparing for a southern offensive that would soon target Charleston. Meanwhile, overseas, Spain had formally entered the war earlier that year and on November 2, 1779, launched the Great Siege of Gibraltar against Britain, highlighting the worldwide scope of the Revolution. Against this backdrop, Pickering's work in logistics was indispensable: despite financial strain, inflation, and constant shortages, his management allowed Washington's army to maintain its operational capacity. This autograph thus situates Pickering at the very heart of the Revolutionary struggle, managing the lifeblood of the Continental Army at a defining moment in the fight for independence.

Timothy Pickering (1745–1829) was a prominent Federalist, later serving as Postmaster General, Secretary of War, and Secretary of State under Presidents Washington and Adams. His wartime service, particularly in the Quartermaster Department, was integral to the success and sustainability of the Continental Army during its final years.
