Photograph

Three black and white photos of Monroe, including an unusual angle of the famous grate scene. Two have been signed "George Barris." All with backstamps from Barris' studio on the verso. With light wear and bumping to the corners. Bold signatures. Overall very fine.

George Barris (1922-2016) was an American photographer and photojournalist. Early in his career he worked for the U.S. Army's Office of Public Relations, gaining recognition for his photographs of General Dwight D. Eisenhower. After the war, he became a freelance photographer and began photographing many stars of the 1950s and 1960s, including Elizabeth Taylor, Marlon Brando, Charlie Chaplin, Frank Sinatra, Clark Gable and Steve McQueen. He is perhaps best known for his photographs of actress Marilyn Monroe, who he photographed in 1954 on the set of "The Seven Year Itch", and in 1962 in a series that became known as "The Last Photos." The latter photoshoot would be the last photos taken of of Monroe, on July 13, 1962, prior to her death.
