Thomas Mifflin, Constitution Signer, DS from Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

 

1p document signed by Constitution signer and 1st Governor of Pennsylvania Thomas Mifflin (1744-1800) as "ThoMifflin" at upper left. The enormous signature measures 5.25" x 1" alone. Signed at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 7, 1792. Appended to the main document is a 3pp handwritten writ pertaining to a bankruptcy case, signed by Notary Public Peter Lohra (the man being appointed as a Notary Public) on the third page. The main document shows expected folds, some fragile, with closed tears, or repaired. Minor discoloration to the upper half, else in very good to good condition. 15.625" x 12.5".

 

The partially printed and partially manuscript main document features a large and ornately printed headline: "Thomas Mifflin,/ Governor of the Commonwealth of/ Pennsylvania." Also featuring the Pennsylvania state seal in an 8-pointed star form embossed seal at upper left. Countersigned by Deputy Secretary James Thimble at lower left. Docketed at top and verso.

 

The main document appointed Peter Lohra a Notary Public.

Know ye, That Peter Lohra Esquire whose name is subscribed to the Instrument of Writing hereto annexed was at the time of subscribing the same, a Notary Public residing in the County of Philadelphia in the said Commonwealth, duly Appointed and Commissioned…"

 

Thomas Mifflin served as the 1st Governor of Pennsylvania between 1790-1799. The Philadelphia merchant and Patriot had served as General George Washington's aide during the Revolutionary War, and eventually attained the rank of major general. Mifflin signed the Constitution as one of eight Pennsylvania delegates at the Philadelphia Convention in 1787, though he is not usually cited in the renowned list.

In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.
