Thomas Edison Signed Edison Phonograph Works Stock Certificate
Signed Document
An Edison Phonographic Works stock certificate signed by Thomas Edison as company president. 1 sheet (front and back), measuring 13.75" x 5.75", New Jersey, dated January 8, 1898. No. 99, issuing 100 Shares of $100 Capitol Stock to Walter Cutting. Signed "Thomas A. Edison" and countersigned "John F. Randolph" as Treasurer. The transfer form on verso has been filled out, transferring half of the stock to Edison and half to W. E. Gilmore on April 12, 1907. The stock certificate has flattened folds with edge toning and soiling. Multiple cancellation stamps through both signatures. Boldly signed. Overall, good.

The Edison Phonograph Works was incorporated in New Jersey on May 3, 1888 and controlled the manufacturing rights for Edison's phonograph. The factory in West Orange manufactured phonographs, cylinders, machines for the Bates Manufacturing Company, and electrical devices for the Edison Manufacturing Company. In 1914 its factory was destroyed by fire but was soon rebuilt. In 1924, the company became part of Thomas A. Edison, Inc.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
