Thomas Edison Archive, with Beautiful Signature and Probable Type I Press Photos
Archive
An eclectic archive of Edison items, the centerpiece of which is a fine "umbrella" pencil signature accomplished on a 3.12" x 2.25" card. It is housed in a vintage leather card-holder belonging to Frank Dietrich, a member of the Langley High School Educational Moving Pictures Club, and whose club card for the academic year 1929 is also present. We believe that Edison personally signed the card for the young film enthusiast. Very slight smudging, otherwise very good condition.

The lot comprises a total of 10 items, including the following:

1. A copper printing plate measuring 3.75" x 2.25", which reads (in reverse): "Edison Week / Concerts Everyday / Come In" and is accented with a portrait of Edison. Light wear to edges, but the intrepid collector may well be able to print up a few of these in their spare time!

2. Four superb press photos, almost definitely Type I, measuring from 5.5" x 6.75" to 10" x 8". They portray: Edison at work (1928), with bandleader John Philip Sousa (1923), and two with Kodak inventor George Eastman (date obscured on both).

3. A printed broadside measuring 5.5" x 8", advertising the April edition of "Outing" Magazine, which contains an Edison editorial titled "Bah! Balloons!" This piece, no doubt humorous and acerbic, is described as "Thomas A. Edison's terse opinion of present-day Air-ships."

4. Two FDCs honoring Edison, both canceled Feb. 11, 1947.

5. A vintage print of the patent application for Edison's electric lamp, January 27, 1880. We believe this to be a commemorative copy.
