"Dear Friesel: / There is nothing I would rather do than be with you. Goodness knows that a Cantigny Day dinner with the members of the old First would be infinitely more delightful than what I have to do. Unfortunately, for my sins, I must address the Credit Men of the United States at the annual convention here in New York on that day. / Give my best to Brethren. / With kind regards, Theodore Roosevelt."

The eldest son of President Theodore Roosevelt, often known as Theodore Jr., he was an American military officer, politician and businessman. Roosevelt is known for his World War II service, including the directing of troops at Utah Beach during the Normandy landings, for which he received the Medal of Honor. He primarily served with the 1st Division, participated in several battles, including the Battle of Cantigny, and held command of the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry as a lieutenant colonel. Following the war, Roosevelt played a key role in founding The American Legion.
