Description:

The Optic - The Optic, an image magnification tool The "OPTIC" has the function of image magnification. It has been widely used in CCD coupling, image intensifier coupling, medical and dental radiography, video imaging and advanced imaging applications. Law enforcement uses them for analysis of latent fingerprints.

The OPTIC offers a greater than two to one magnification by virtually inhaling the light in a room and bouncing back an image on a flat glass surface that can be studied. Unlike other magnifiers, there is absolutely no distortion, in fact the image is brighter than the original. It offers "hands free" examination from a variety of angles and allows the user to make a comparison from arm's reach using known examples side by side.

John Reznikoff uses the optic for a number of tasks, including authentication, and for reading letters that are difficult to decipher, especially when there is "cross writing". It slides across the surface for this application and is also suitable for maps, books, and a variety of other flat items. It is one solid piece of glass and makes a beautiful desk paperweight too! No batteries or electronics to go awry. We were told that these were government surplus, originally designed to enhance the infrared in tanks in Iraq during Desert Storm (at a cost of thousands of dollars) and have seen them offered for up to $1300, if you can find them in this country.
