"Wendingen," a Dutch art magazine, was published monthly between 1918 and 1931. Many of the 116 issues were edited and designed by Hendrik Theodorus Wijdeveld, a Dutch architect and designer. In 1925, a series of seven issues were published on the work of Frank Lloyd Wright. That year, all seven issues were combined into the signed volume here offered, the first major publication on Wright's works since the double portfolio of his drawings, "Ausgef_hrte Bauten und Entw_rfe von Frank Lloyd Wright" (1910/1911).

Prolific American artist John Hemming Fry (1860-1946) chose his subjects largely from the classic poets and mythology. At the Paris Salon of 1931, his two entries were "Thetis" and "Ode to Sappho," with the latter receiving honorable mention. He was a corresponding member of the fine arts section of the French Institute, an officer of the Legion of Honor, and a Commander of the Order of the Crown of Italy which was awarded to him in 1933 on the recommendation of Mussolini in recognition of Fry's aid in advancing the excavations at Herculaneum.

We have been able to find just one other signed copy of "The Life-Work of the American Architect Frank Lloyd Wright" ever being offered to sale at auction - at Christie's London in 2011.
