"The emperor of the Cherokee Indians, and the king of the Catawbas, attended by many of the principal warriors and head men of their nations, waited on governor Glenn, to renew their antient [sic] friendship with this government, and to get commissions, and were received with great ceremony and civility. His excellency made a speech to them, wherein he highly praised their firm adherence to e/y British interest, and promised to give immediate directions for their commissions, under the great seal of the province, as emperor of the Cherokees, and king of the Catawbas; he then expatiated on the grandeur and power of the King of Great Britain, who, as he was now at war with both French and Spaniards, expected they would unite with his subjects, against their common enemies…"
