Monroe Marilyn

The Finest Known Marilyn Monroe Signed Photo, Graded 10 by PSA/DNA, Signed the Year She Transformed from Norma Jean to Marilyn Monroe!

Black and white matte photograph boldly signed and inscribed by Marilyn Monroe circa 1947, as "My very best wishes, Marilyn Monroe". 8' x 10". Provenance: Ex. Christies and will be accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity by PSA/DNA.

Having been in business for 40 years, this is the finest signed Marilyn Monroe photo we have ever seen.  Also, to our knowledge, no other photo has been graded by PSA as 10; in fact, we know of no photos graded at 9.

In terms of the combination of photo quality, signature quality, image composition, and how early this was taken in her career, we feel a better one will never be found.

At an auction in 2014, a Marilyn Monroe photo not nearly as nice as this one, and only signed “Marilyn”, fetched over $33,000.

A very early photograph, signed the year after she adopted the iconic stage name—Marilyn Monroe. This outstanding photo depicts Marilyn in a classic pose, as a young, little-known starlet who at the time was working as a pinup model before signing with 20th Century Fox in June 1946. Within a year, her contract with Fox would expire (after the completion of Monroe's tiny part in Dangerous Years, Fox made the infamous blunder to drop Monroe's option altogether and let her go). Though the reasons behind Fox's decision to drop Marilyn are not known, Fox exhibited little interest in developing her acting career at this juncture. They had seemed content simply to feature her in dozens of cheesecake publicity photos or to shuttle her around to publicity events, such as the Fox Studio Club golf tournament.

However, as it would turn out, 1947 would be the defining year for Marilyn who then officially changed Agencies and more importantly changed her stage name leaving Norma Jean behind. This period captures an identity in flux that never found certainty afterward, and the beginning of the bumpy but meteoric rise as a superstar.

A very scarce Marilyn signed and inscribed photo from this infamous transition period of her life.
