THE TWO BUCKS STOP HERE!  ALS sending a mint uncirculated $2 Bill, engraved with Secretary of the Treasury John W. Snyder’s signature, signed and sent by Truman to Snyder “for good luck as you sent me the 1884 Dollar for the same purpose…” Truman adds, “I haven’t signed a piece of money since I left the great White Jail!”

(1) Two Dollar Bill Signed: “Harry S. Truman.” $2 bill, Series 1928G, seal and serial numbers in red, engraved with the signatures “Georgia Neese Clark / Treasurer of the United States” and “John W. Snyder / Secretary of the Treasury.” No folds. Uncirculated. In mint condition.

(2) Autograph Letter Signed “Harry,” two pages, 6.5” x 8.5”, front and verso. Fine condition. Kansas City, Missouri, December 26, 1956. To John [Snyder, Secretary of the Treasury, 1946-1953]. Fine condition.

Appropriately penned on his personal Federal Reserve Bank Building stationery, in full, “That 1884 Dollar, all enclosed in plastic came this morning. I have, in that safe you were instrumental in giving me the last Christmas in the White House a five, two twos, and a one signed by John W. Snyder, Secretary of the Treasury and Georgia Neese Clarke [sic], Treasurer of the United States. I’d signed these bills also for keepsakes.

“I’m sending you one of the two dollar bills for good luck as you sent me the 1884 Dollar for the same purpose. May 1957 be good to you and yours and I hope that you and I can see more of each other from now on. Sincerely Harry. John, I haven’t signed a piece of money since I left the great White Jail!” Fine condition. Truman was born in 1884.

(3) An official replica of Truman’s sign “The Buck Stops Here,” 10.25” x 1.75”, mounted on a wooden base, from the Harry S. Truman Library & Museum. According to the Truman Library, “On more than one occasion President Truman referred to the desk sign in public statements. For example, in an address at the National War College on December 19, 1952, Mr. Truman said, ‘You know, it's easy for the Monday morning quarterback to say what the coach should have done, after the game is over. But when the decision is up before you – and on my desk I have a motto which says “The Buck Stops Here” – the decision has to be made.’”
