From Hunt's text: "On 1st November [1952] the party was decided and the names were submitted to the Himalayan Committee on the 7th..."Charles Evans, F.R.C.S., aged 33, short and sturdy, sandy-haired, was at that time a surgeon in the Walton Hospital, Liverpool. At intervals between his professional appointments he had found time to take part in three expeditions to the Himalaya... Michael Westmacott was 27. He had no previous Himalayan experience, although he had served in the East at the end of the war as a Sapper officer. An ex-President of the Oxford University Mountaineering Club, he is a mountaineer of the first rank... Wilfrid Noyce is a schoolmaster and author... Aged 34, he was, at the outbreak of war in 1939, one of our foremost young mountaineers Š—_ Michael Ward, aged 27, was our Doctor. He is a very fine climber tooŠ—..." John Hunt, leader of the expedition, describes himself: "I had been climbing intermittently since 1925, when I climbed my first high Alpine peak at the age of 15. I had fitted in ten Alpine summer seasons, as well as a great deal of ski-ing. I had also done much rock climbing in this countryŠ—..."

News of the expedition's success reached London on the morning of June 2, 1953, the day of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation. John Hunt received his knighthood on his return to London, in July 1953.
