Presidential

Four sets of partly printed and partly handwritten presidential invitations to the White House, issued by sitting U.S. Presidents Teddy Roosevelt (1858-1919), William H. Taft (1857-1930), and Warren G. Harding (1865-1923). Four Berry & Whitmore Co., Washington, DC invitations accompanied by matching envelopes; three of four sets also include door cards with miniature companion envelopes. Invitations and envelopes feature embossed gilt presidential seals. All tickets are addressed to "Mr. and Mrs. Stuart". In mostly very good to near fine condition, with some toning and soiling. Invitations measure 5.625" x 4.625", and were for an unknown event that likely took place on an annual basis.

The "President and Mrs. Roosevelt" invited the Stuarts to a White House event scheduled for Thursday, February 4, 1909 from 9 to 10:30 PM. Cream invitation, cream envelope, pink door card, and cream miniature envelope. Tip of envelope flap a little wrinkled.

The "President and Mrs. Taft request[ed] the pleasure of the company of" the Stuarts at a White House event scheduled for Tuesday, February 7, 1911 at 9:30 PM. Cream invitation and cream envelope. The Tafts invited the Stuarts to return to the White House two years later, on Tuesday, January 28, 1913 at 9:30 PM. Cream invitation, cream envelope, tangerine colored door card, and cream miniature envelope.

The "President and Mrs. Harding" invited the Stuarts to a White House event scheduled for Thursday, February 9, 1922 at 9:30 PM. Cream invitation, cream envelope, yellow door card, and cream miniature envelope. Large envelope with moderate soiling.

These presidential invitations represent the Grand Old Party's contribution to the early twentieth century: 26th U.S. President Teddy Roosevelt, 27th U.S. President William H. Taft, and 29th U.S. President Warren G. Harding.
