Roosevelt Theodore

Teddy Roosevelt & Cabinet Signed Large & Handsome Photo

Large printed photo montage with painted elements signed by 26th U.S. President Teddy Roosevelt and 9 members of his second-term cabinet, including future 27th U.S. President William Taft.

Signed in stone by photographer George Prince, and also possibly signed by him on the mat (partially overlapped by Roosevelt's signature at lower right.) The black and white image is affixed to a mat, the margin of which bears the signatures. Light to moderate overall toning to mat board, and isolated discoloration to right margin of photo. Else very good to near fine condition. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from University Archives (Westport, CT) signed by company founder and president John Reznikoff dated May 8, 2018.

President Roosevelt is depicted seated at the head of an oval conference table facing his cabinet members. This view, taken in Washington, D.C. circa 1907, was just one of a series of photographic portraits taken of Roosevelt by photographer George Prince (born 1848) between 1900-1912. Prince had photographed Roosevelt first as New York Governor, and later as President; he also took several portraits of First Lady Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt, as well as group portraits of Roosevelt's Cabinet and Senate. Vice President Charles W. Fairbanks (1852-1918), term 1905-1909, is not included in this portrait.

Signatories include, clockwise from TR:

1. President Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919), as "Theodore Roosevelt," term 1901-1909.
