Taft William 1857 - 1930 RarePresidental one page ALS of Taft, He writes to a Utica Public library offering his autographed letter for their collection
Signed ALS by William Taft on White House Stationary letterhead, as "William Taft", and dated "Dec 16th, 1912", 5" x 7.75" .
President Taft signs a warm letter to the Utica Public library offering to comply with their wish for a Presidential autograph.
The timing of the letter referenced his wishes to comply with a request from his recently deceased Vice President, Vice President Sherman. VP Sherman, started his career as a Utica local townsman and mayor so he had personal ties to Utica. It the letter he wrote:
"It gives me great pleasure to send you a letter to add to your wonderful collection. My friendship and admiration for your lamented townsman, Vice President Sherman, makes me anxious to comply with a request which he professed some months before his death./ Sincerely yours, William Taft"
