T. Roosevelt Orders "Rhine Wine" from NYC's Union League Club! Iconic Institution on 37th Street!
Signature

Unique and evocative early 20th-century handwritten drink order slip from The Union League Club, dated circa 1900s, and filled in the hand of Theodore Roosevelt. Roosevelt orders "2 big glass Rhine wine and selzer" for .50 and signs as "T. Roosevelt" at the bottom. Stamped by the club and slight paper loss to corner, boldly signed. The drink slip is mounted in a handsome matted display within a cherry wood frame. The slip measures 4.25" x 2.75" and is framed to an overall size of 12" x 10.5."

A highly unusual format for a Roosevelt signature, this piece not only stands out among presidential autographs but also intersects with early American wine culture and New York social history, appealing to collectors across multiple categories.

The Union League Club of New York was established in 1863 as a private social club that supported the policies of President Abraham Lincoln and the preservation of the Union during the Civil War. Over the decades, it became one of the most prestigious clubs in America, known for its influential membership of political leaders, businessmen, and reformers. Theodore Roosevelt, born and raised in New York City, was a frequent presence in the Club during his years as Police Commissioner, Governor of New York, and Vice President. His association with the Club reflects his ties to reform-minded Republicanism and elite civic circles at the turn of the century.

Today, the Union League Club remains an exclusive private club located on East 37th Street in Manhattan. It continues to uphold its founding principles of patriotism and civic leadership while adapting to modern times. With its iconic Beaux-Arts clubhouse, it hosts events, lectures, and social gatherings, and maintains a distinguished membership of professionals, public servants, and dignitaries. The Club also continues its tradition of promoting public service and American values through charitable and educational initiatives.
