Madison Dolley 1768 - 1849 Superb ALS of Dolly Madison with mention of John Quincy Adams: "I pray you kiss dear Mrs. Adams...and her husband too, if he will allow you"

Single page, autograph letter signed , "D. P. Madison", and dated May 26, 1839, to her niece Miss Mary Cutts while visiting John Quincy Adams. Left margin has tiny holes along the edge where page must have been attached. Fine condition overall.

"I was delighted with the contents of your letter, especially to see my predictions verified, that you would be more happy and favored in your present task than any you had ever before taken - blind to good fortune as you were and being nervous at leaving us far behind ...... I sent for little Mary after her return from Mrs. Cutts, she was well and gay, said she did not like it much - their pudding was too sweet!" ..... I pray you kiss dear Mrs. Adams and her daughter for me, and her Husband too if he will allow you - Payne has not yet come and I must wait a few days for him. Mrs. Taylor's love to you, liked your message. Ever your own Auntee - D. P. Madison"
