In "They Perished Like Shadows" by Svetlana Alliluyeva, in the September 22, 1967, issue of Life magazine, she writes, "My father signed all his letters to me the same way: 'From Setanka-Housekeeper's wretched Secretary, the poor peasant I Stalin.' I answered in the same vein and sent him 'orders' ... He thought up the form of these, too... under the order my father would write. 'I obey,' or 'I submit,' or 'Agreed,' or ' It will be done.'" Her father's first name in English was spelled "Iosef," "Josef," or "Joseph."

Svetlana Alliluyeva Stalin (1926-2011) was Stalin's youngest child and only daughter whom he called Setanka. Alliluyeva was her mother's last name. In 1967, Svetlana defected and became a naturalized citizen of the United States.

Eight-year-old Svetlana writes to her father in blue, red, and grey pencil, incorporating a sketch. In full, to "I. Stalin / 29-VI-34 Order No. 3 / It is ordered for you: / to show some day what is done in 'CC' [Central Committee] / Strictly Confidential [send] by Messenger. / Signature: Stalina - Hostess." She has created what appears to be her personal official state emblem, making her letter official, with a crude five-pointed star at top center.

Stalin's reply, in blue pencil: "At your orders: Secretary of / Setanka - I. Stalin."
