Description:

Superb Charlie Chaplin autograph the year he re-released "The Gold Rush"

Jefferson penny postcard, 5.5" x 3.25", signed "With best wishes / Charlie Chaplin / 1942" on blank message side. Self-addressed to C.L. Sivertsen in Stamford, Conn. No postmark but noted "Jan 22 '42" probably by Silvertsen who later served in World War II as a Tech Sergeant. Light toning just touches tops of the upper case "W" and "b." Fine condition.

In 1942, the year he signed the autograph here offered, Charles Chaplin Productions and United Artists re-released The Gold Rush, a 1925 silent comedy, written, produced, and directed by Chaplin. United Artists was founded in 1919 by Chaplin, D.W. Griffith, Mary Pickford, and Douglas Fairbanks. Chaplin had said many times that The Gold Rush was the film for which he most wanted to be remembered. Even though it was a silent film, it received 1942 Academy Award nominations for Best Music and Best Sound Recording.
