Rubbed at edges, bump on back cover. Very Good condition. Original dust jacket with minor rubbing at upper and lower edges of dust jacket spine. Protected in a clear archval cover.

Woodstock is Snoopy's best friend. The small, scrappy yellow bird first appeared nameless in a 1967 strip; he was named in 1970. He appears in this edition. On the last page, following the last "Happiness is" seniment, a smiling Snoopy and Woodstock are dancing across the page. Franklin, first appearance in 1968, Charlie Brown's quiet friend and confidant, the only Black American in the Peanuts gang, and Marcie, Peppermint Patty's best friend, first appearance in 1971, also appear in this edition.

Before "Happiness is a Warm Puppy," Schulz had published only collected "Peanuts" strips; this was the first "Peanuts" book to appear in a format of original text and illustrations. First published in October 1962, it became a popular, comparatively inexpensive Christmas present at $2.00. "Happiness Is a Warm Puppy" debuted at #9 on the December 22, 1962 Best Seller List of "The New York Times," remaining on the list for another 44 weeks.
