On stationery of the U.S. Grant Hotel, San Diego, California, picturing his father, January 10, 1925. To Plooma. In full. "America invites you and Fred to dine with Hart tomorrow night. He would like to spend the afternoon with you - please phone in the morning if he can do so. Main 7100 Room 666, or tonight. Ikey wants to take you to a theatre after dinner." Together with: John Harris, The Circle and Straight Line. Treatise in Geometry. Book First (London: N. Trubner & Co., 1876) 61p, 8vo, boldly signed "U.S. Grant" by President Grant's son on the foxed page after the front free-endpaper. Some foxing. Diagrams and fold-outs. Original dark green cloth, gilt lettering on cover, gilt diagram on back cover. Paper at front and back hinges have started to split but the covers are still attached to the book. Opening in 1910, the U.S. Grant Hotel was built by Ulysses S. Grant, Jr. (1852-1929). In 1913, he married America Workman Will. This letter was written to San Diegan Plooma Hobby; Fred Crowther was her 15-year-old son. Hart Purdy, Jr. was U.S. Grant, Jr.'s 11-year-old grandson.
