Description:

Freud tells his protege 24-year-old Otto Rank that at his next Wednesday evening meeting of the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society, always held at his home, philosopher Baron Christian von Ehrenfels will speak on the topic "The Sexual Need"

Autograph Letter Signed" Freud" on both sides of his personal card imprinted" Prof. Dr. Freud IX., Berggasse 19," 2 pages, 5.25" x 3.25", front and verso. [Vienna, Austria], December 14, 1908. To Otto Rank. In German, fully translated. Fine condition.

In full, "Prof. Ehrenfels from Prague agreed to give a lecture for us on Wednesday on the topic 'The Sexual Need.' Would you acquaint Dr. Steckel, as well as the other gentlemen individually with this interesting change in progress, especially since without autobus we can hardly expect to have too many of the experts in the field come here." Freud wrote this letter on Wednesday, December 14, 1908, so the lecture was scheduled for Freud's next Wednesday evening meeting of the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society on December 21, 1908.

Sigmund Freud lived and worked in his house at Berggasse 19 in Vienna's IX district. Psychoanalyst OTTO RANK (1884-1939) was an active member of the Wednesday evening meetings in Freud's home where he was always seated at Freud's left. He was Secretary of the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society from 1906-1915. Philosopher Baron Christian von EHRENFELS (1855-1932) introduced the term Gestalt into psychology. His Sexualethik, Grenzfr. Nerv. u. Seelenleb (1907) was referred to in Freud's On the Sexual Theories of Children (1908). Wilhelm STECKEL (1869-1940) was an Austrian physician and psychologist who became one of Freud's earliest followers.
