A collection of three partially-printed documents, consisting of two vouchers and one large payroll sheet, each referencing the presence of African American servants. Ranging in date from 1862 to 1866, with material recording payment for two regiment groups from Maryland in addition to the 15th U.S. Infantry. Varying degrees of light age toning, scattered soiling, and expected creasing throughout; isolated tearing present near folds of payroll. Otherwise, very good. 1.) Payroll of the Independent Patapsco Guard, Maryland Volunteers. January to February 1862. Within, at least three men are identified as servants: William Savoy, I. T. Iqleharte, and William Boin. Each men were paid a total of $13 per month, a marginal sum in comparison to the $70, $50, and $45 wages of the men they served. Measures 22.5" x 18" unfolded.

2.) Partial-printed voucher for one John H. Loman, 2nd Lt. Company B Maryland volunteers, with expenses totaling $307.95 between January-March, 1862. Under his list of expenses is a brief description of a black servant by the name of Charles Jackson, who stood at 5' 4" tall with black eyes and "woolley"[sic] hair. Measures 8" x 10" or 16" x 10", unfolded.

3.) Partial-printed voucher for one Edward MK [McKenney] Hudson, Major of the 15th U.S. Infantry, with expenses totaling $240 for the month of September 1866. His servant, also named Charles, is described as being between 5' 3" and 5' 4", with "Black" written in bold below the fields of complexion, hair, and eye color. Measures 8.5" x 11" or 17.25" x 11", unfolded.

Applicable shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice. All items will ship with signature required, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.

Third Party Shipping Option: If a third party shipper is preferred, the buyer is responsible for contacting them directly to make shipping arrangements. For your convenience, we have provided some recommended shippers. For your protection, we will require a signed release from you, confirming your authorization for us to release your lots to your specified third party. At that point, our responsibility and insurance coverage for your item(s) ceases. Items picked up by third party shippers are required to pay Connecticut sales tax. Items requiring third party shipping due to being oversized, fragile or bulky will be denoted in the item description.
