Secretary of State Henry Clay signature, with PSA/DNA LOA.

Kentuckian Henry Clay (1777-1852) was an influential figure in early-to-mid-nineteenth-century American politics. Initially trained as a lawyer, he served as a Kentucky Congressman and Senator and also as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. This clip dates from sometime between 1825-1829, when Clay served as 9th U.S. Secretary of State to 6th U.S. President John Quincy Adams (1767-1848). Clay's diplomatic success was mixed. He garnered the United States its "most favored nation" trading status with many Latin American countries. On the other hand, Clay was unable to settle the question of the U.S./Canadian border with Britain, or receive compensation from France for American shipping damaged during the Napoleonic Wars. Clay later unsuccessfully ran for U.S. President twice, in 1832 and in 1844.

Accompanied by a PSA/DNA Letter of Authenticity.
