Scarce Original Space Shuttle Astronaut Gear, One Item Flown on STS-84!
Relic
We offer here a group of three rarely-seen items of personal gear which are critical to an astronaut's functioning and very survival in space! All three items originate from a dealer in NASA surplus, and one was even flown on the STS-84 (1997). Overall in very good condition, with details about each piece below.

1. Flown STS-84 Leg Sizing Insert A flown Space Shuttle leg sizing insert which is part of the Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) spacesuit and were made in various widths to customize the fit of the spacesuit leg length. It would be attached to the Leg Segment Restraint layer of the suit that carried the structural loads, with a lacing cord hand-sewn by suit technicians. The insert was Class I flight hardware as indicated on the JCS parts tag, and our example is 9.5" across (folded) x 3.5" tall, and bears an orange label reading: "Leg Sizing Strip P/N 0104-82380-02 S/N 4622 Length 3.61." Accompanied by the original pink NASA parts bag and a hanging tag with details about the part and indicating a unit cost of $1,700.00 (!). In very good condition.

STS-84 was launched on May 15, 1997, one in a series of the Shuttle-Mir rendezvous missions. In this case, the STS-84's mission was the Sixth Shuttle-Mir Docking and included the first U.S.-Russia space walk.

2. EMU Helmet Fresnel Lens (2) Two +4 diopter Fresnel lenses, NASA part #103144986 and which are used by the crew during Extravehicular Activity (EVAs). The lens would be mounted to the lower front inside of the Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) as an aid for the crew members' Display and Control Module (DCM). These are also used by cosmonauts inside the helmets of the Russian Orlan EVA spacesuits.

The lenses are 63.5mm in diameter and comprised of polyvinyl chloride, thus being "press on" and able to adhere with just water. NASA used modified the lens-removing top and bottom segments that reduces the overall height and provides a straight top and bottom, rather than usual curved fully-rounded lens. Accompanied by the original NASA part bag with inventory number and a technical document. Unused and in fine condition.

3. Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) Water Connector Cover. A Space Shuttle protective cover for a Multiple Water Connector (MWC) which is part of the Liquid Cooling Ventilation Garment (LCVG) and a Class I flight component. Shown inside-out, it bears a label on the interior reading: "Protective Cover Multiple Connector," with NASA Part No. 0100-82019-04, Lot #010, Size 00, MFG 11/80." The cover measures approximately 4.75" square, and bears a Velcro strip on the outside (not visible as shown). Accompanied by a translucent pink NASA part bag, inventory label, a hanging parts tag, and a "Cleaned for Service" label dated March 17, 1993. Very good condition, with a color photograph showing the EMU in use during a training session.
