Kennedy Rose

Rose Kennedy Lovely ALS from Palm Beach Residence Known to Millions as the “Winter White House”

KENNEDY, Rose Fitzgerald (1890-1995). Bi-fold 4" x 5"  autograph letter signed by Rose Kennedy as "Rose," to Arthur Goldsmith. Dated "Palm Beach, 4 January" (no year). Pale stain to upper front edge, else near fine with strong vibrant ink.

The Kennedy Palm beach house represents an iconic piece of American history associated with one of the nation’s most prominent families. It was a place where generations of Kennedys lived and played. John Kennedy was said to have written his Pulitzer Prize-winning book, Profiles in Courage, at the house while recovering from back surgery in 1956; and also apparently worked on his inaugural address there; and it was reported that John and his advisers later discussed the composition of his Cabinet at the estate. The enormous Kennedy compound consists of 15,347 square feet of living space, 11 bedrooms, 12 bathrooms and three half-baths and sits behind a high perimeter wall located on 200 feet of beach front.

This lovely letter from Rose thanks Arthur Goldsmith, a Harvard classmate of Joe Kennedy, for his Christmas gift (a red plant), and recounts the holidays: " … By now I suppose Joe has given you all the news of the holidays. Being an optimist, I think we were lucky that only half the family had colds ..."

A lovely letter from the Kennedy Matriarch, composed from this important landmark.
