Ronald Reagan Signs and Inscribes Original Artwork Depicting Himself with His Staff as Frogs on a Log

A stunning original caricature drawing of Ronald Reagan behind his desk in his office with 6 dutiful frogs sitting on his desk watching and listening to him. Inscribed by Reagan along the lower margin "To Peter Harral / With Very Best Wishes + Warmest Regards / Sincerely - Ronald Reagan / June 27, 1990".  The vibrant artwork was created by Mark Steele whose art has graced covers of numerous prominent magazines. This was Steele's cartoon like interpretation of Reagan's office meetings noting "Wherever the President was, his top staff was. They'd sit there in a row in his office like frogs on a log." Reagan's dark, vibrant inscription is the perfect showcase for the piece.  The art has been matted with a striking green mat (complimenting the frogs on Reagan's desk) . By sight the piece is 12" x 8.5", and has been matted to a completed size of 16" x 12.5". Fine condition.

A phenomenal one-of-a-kind piece of an original Reagan political caricature by a prominent artist, signed and inscribed by Reagan!

The artwork was shown in an publication which includes Mark Steele's write up of his visit to The White House, and includes an image of this art. It was during this period (late 1980's/early 1990's) that his art appeared on the cover of The New York Times Magazine. The page will accompany the lot along with the biography of the artist.

Mark Steele is a well-known Boston painter, sculptor, designer, and illustrator. He creates original art for solo and group shows, unique editions for collectors, commissioned artwork for individual patrons and corporations, and illustrations for major publications including several covers for the New York Times Magazine, Harvard Magazine, and Business Week!
