A lovely, delicate designer piece from the Reagans which was part of their dinnerware collection owned and used by them at their Bel Air, California home. This dinner plate is from Porcelain Union factory, Union T made in  Czechoslovakia. The firms short history originated in 1921, as the United Porcelain Factory formed in the village of Meretitz outside of Klasterec. The Anglo Czechoslovakian bank merged several factories to form the new business with offices in Klasterec. The maker marks used by the company included Union K and later Union T, for Turn-Teplitz when the Alexandra Porcelain works factory merged into the new business. Most Union T plates were made between 1921-1934. By 1939 all the factories were closed.

In classic Czechoslovakian style, the rim of the plate is heavily and ornately patterned in gilt, with a bright floral bouquet center design. Nancy Reagan's personal style frequently would include such ornate designs and would often display floral patterns. This pattern is more of the more elegant and ornate patterns owned by the Reagan's, representing a timeless piece for special occasions. Mrs. Nancy Reagan was well known for her interest in elegant designer classics and the Reagan's choice of dinnerware was no exception. This was shown during her years as First Lady as her flair for entertaining and hosting transformed the aura of style and sophistication to the White House.  “She felt the White House should exemplify the best,” said Mark Weinberg, who worked on Ronald Reagan’s campaigns, in the White House Press Office. The first lady handled her life both in and out of the White House with the same conviction, and this stunning piece from their personal dinnerware collection personifies Nancy Reagan's attention to style and her love of timeless sophisticated design.

The Reagan auction saw record prices for a celebrity including about $200,000 for cowboy boots and $100,000 for a sheet of Presidential doodles. This incomplete set was purchased with the hopes that individual items could be offered, so as to share something intimate, private and Presidential with clients who might not wish to own a large group. The Reagans entertained a regalia of people at their home ranging from Heads of State and Politicos to the glitterati friends from the Hollywood days.
