Large bifold which has been matted fully opened to a size of 15.5" x 12.75" (sight). Heavily and darkly scripted on 3 of the pages. Signed by Robert Williamson as "RM Williamson". Expected folds with some separation along the fold and bits of paper loss appearing to have been affected by the bold ink. Matted in a soft acrylic on both sides to an overall size of 24.5" x 22.25"

Petition of Robert M. Williamson stating respectfully that John Niesbet lives on the Land of your petitioner and ... "in his fits of fury.... John Niesbit is subject to paroxysms of madness, that in his fits of fury he is disposed to commit acts of outrage and violence with those with whom he may come in contact. That the said Niesbit has tried attempted the life of your petitioner - presenting of him a loaded musket at the distance of ten or twelve steps .... And that in truth your petitioner is in continual apprehension for the safety of himself and family".

Williamson signs, acknowledging the petition filed on his behalf requesting the confinement of John Niesbit. The petition fills the first one and a half pages of the document and is addressed to Judge John Y. Mills.

An order to the sheriff ordering him to "take the body of John Niesbit and him safely keep" is written on the facing page.

Williamson was struck by an illness at the age of fifteen that left him disabled for life. His right leg was folded back at the knee and rested on a wooden leg, which earned him the moniker "Three Legged Willie". He migrated to Texas in the late 1820s and settled in San Felipe de Austin. He participated at the Battle of San Jacinto, and received 640 acres as a bounty.

Has a handsome, important presentation and would look stunning framed.
