A lovely typed and signed copy of "The Road Not Taken". Signed by Robert Frost in full signature as "Robert Frost". 8.5" x 11", on cotton fiber stationary stock. Lightly toned, else near fine.


"The Road Not Taken", a narrative poem, reads naturally or conversationally, and begins as a kind of photographic depiction of a quiet moment in a woods. It consists of four stanzas of 5 lines each. 


It is one of Frost's most popular works. Some have said that it is one of his most misunderstood poems, claiming that it is not simply a poem that champions the idea of “following your own path”, but that the poem, they suggest, expresses some irony regarding that idea. Frost was once about to read the poem, when he commented to his audience, "You have to be careful of that one; it's a tricky poem — very tricky,” perhaps intending to suggest the poem's ironic possibilities. A New York Times Sunday book review on Brian Hall's 2008 biography Fall of Frost states: "Whichever way they go, they're sure to miss something good on the other path."


A wonderful rare signed example which would present well framed.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,


And sorry I could not travel both


And be one traveler, long I stood


And looked down one as far as I could


To where it bent in the undergrowth;


 

Then took the other, as just as fair,


And having perhaps the better claim,


Because it was grassy and wanted wear;


Though as for that the passing there


Had worn them really about the same,


 

And both that morning equally lay


In leaves no step had trodden black.


Oh, I kept the first for another day!


Yet knowing how way leads on to way,


I doubted if I should ever come back.


 

I shall be telling this with a sigh


Somewhere ages and ages hence:


Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
