Description:

Richard & Patricia Nixon
Washington D.C., February 23, 1953
Richard Nixon Signed Silver Certificate PSA Gem Mint 10, Authenticated by Patricia Nixon, PSA Gem Mint 10 Letter! Fantastic, One of a Kind Grouping!
Slabbed signature

Exceptional dual piece featuring a signed $1 Silver Certificate by Richard Nixon paired with a typed letter signed by Patricia Nixon, dated February 23, 1953, acknowledging the enclosed dollar bill "which you sent for autographing," and offering advice on how to obtain Eisenhower's autograph. The letter is neatly signed "Patricia R. Nixon" in bold black ink. Both the Silver Certificate and letter are encapsulated and graded a Gem Mint 10 by PSA/DNA. This unique pairing is especially remarkable in that then Vice President and future President Richard Nixon personally signed the dollar bill, while his wife, then Second Lady Patricia Nixon, authenticated it in her accompanying letter, creating rare and dual-signed provenance between the then Vice President and Second Lady. Together, these beautifully preserved items offer a tangible and highly graded glimpse into the early public life of the Nixon family during their White House ascent. The letter measures 4" x 5.125" and is encapsulated to an overall size of 6.5" x 10". The silver certificate measures 2.625" x 6.125" and is encapsulated to an overall size of 4.5" x 9.5".

Richard Nixon (1913–1994) served as Vice President under Dwight D. Eisenhower from 1953–1961 and as President from 1969–1974. His administration is remembered for key moments in Cold War diplomacy, including the historic opening to China and détente with the Soviet Union. Domestically, he oversaw the creation of the EPA and the end of the draft, but his legacy remains most shaped by the Watergate scandal, which led to his resignation in 1974, the first and only U.S. president to do so.

This silver certificate, a form of paper currency once redeemable for physical silver, was still in circulation during Nixon's presidency, adding historical richness to the grouping and symbolizing both the waning days of the silver standard and Nixon's turbulent time in office. Currency-signed pieces by Nixon are scarce, especially with such well-preserved autographs.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
