Description:

Rhode Island Civil War Dated Autograph Book, Ca. 1864-1879

A small autograph book, measuring 5" x 7.75" [twelvemo], No place [possibly Rhode Island], dated Ca. 1864 to 1879. The volume has an inscription at the front reading, "To Emmie from Mother/ August 31st, 1864." With a mixture of autographs from Civil War soldiers, friends, and local residents. Most autographs are signed on the album pages, but there are a few instances where signed cards have been mounted or inserted into the book. Bound in brown blind-stamped cloth-covered boards, with gilt lettering on the front. Most of the material at the spine has been lost, and the binding has come loose. Bumped and worn corners and edges, with further wear to the covers. Light toning and soiling to the internal pages. Overall, good.

Most of the soldiers included in the album were enlisted in Rhode Island regiments during the war and include:
Otis P Bucklin, Rhode Island 1st Light Artillery
George E. Bucklin, Rhode Island 3rd Heavy Artillery
James M. Baker, Rhode Island 12th Infantry
Henry M. Clark, Vermont 1st Heavy Artillery
Thomas A. Earle, Rhode Island 1st Cavalry
James N. Earle, Rhode Island 3rd Heavy Artillery
George Hammond, Rhode Island 1st Light Artillery
Andrew Greenhalgh, Rhode Island 10th Infantry
Charles A. Webster, Rhode Island 1st Cavalry
