Description:

RFK Comedic TLS Boldly Signed on Senate Letterhead

TLS, 8.5" x 11",  February 16, 1967, on United States Senate letterhead to Matthew L. Lifflander of Hertz International LTD. The letter is boldly signed by the Senator as "Robert F. Kennedy" Expected folds from mailing, foxing, else fine.

The letter is written in response to Matthew Lifflander, who joked with RFK that he provided a few extra stereo tapes for his new Lincoln "to all United States Senators from New York who did not support Governor Rockefeller for re-election and who lease automobiles from Hertz." Lifflander later jokes that "It is our sincere hope that you're desire to hear this music will encourage you to stay within the vehicle and keep you from standing on the roof of our car during public appearances." A copy of the correspondence is included in the lot.

In Full:

"Dear Matt:

I want to thank you for the new vehicle and for the unexpected surprise of the extra stereo tapes. I found the selection in extremely good taste.

I have not yet had a chance to test the structural components of the roof, hood and trunk. As you predicted, both the good music and the nippy weather have kept me inside. I am waiting for the first thaw to revert to my old habits.

Thank you again for your personal consideration.

Sincerely,

Robert F. Kennedy."
