With this bill of sale, Thomas Burrus sold a thirty-year-old slave named Mason to L. P. Jackson in Howard County in central Missouri.

    Know all men by these presents that I Thomas Burrus of Howard County State of Missouri Have this day bargained and sold to L. P. Jackson a certain negro man named Mason Between thirty & thirty one years of age, for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred and fifty dollars to me in hand paid the receipt of which is Hereby acknowledged I do warrant said Mason to be bound in body and Mind and a slave for life and do warrant and defend the right and title of said Mason from all claims whatsoever. Given under my Hand and seal this twelfth day of March 1833.

Thomas Burrus (1771/74-1849) was born in Virginia. During the Revolutionary War, he served as a sergeant in the 3rd Virginia Regiment. In 1790, he lived in North Carolina, and in 1800 in Kentucky. In 1803, he married Mary Ann Mills Meade (1780-1846), and they had at least nine children. By 1830, Burrus had moved to Howard County in central Missouri. In 1840, he owned ten slaves. In 1847, he married Nancy Hughes Price (1783-1859), and they were married for fourteen months before his death.

Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***
