Rev War Veteran Seeks a Pension for Services Against "British Ingans"

An autograph letter signed by a Revolutionary War veteran who is seeking to receive a pension for his war service. 1p, measuring 7.5" x 12", Northampton, Massachusetts, dated April 7, 1830. Signed by Oliver Dewey and addressed to Esq. Pearson (or Presson). Dewey asks for assistance in securing his war pension, having served from 1779 to 1780. He also describes a battle he fought in against Native Americans and traveling along the Mohawk River. With flattened folds and a few small holes at the cross folds. Light toning and foxing throughout. Very good overall.

In part (with grammatical and spelling errors corrected for ease of reading):

"I understand that you advertised that you would assist those that were in the Revolution to get a pension. Sir I will give you a true statement of the time I was out in the Revolution War…In September 1779 I enlisted and went to Springfield for the term of three months, served under a United States officer by the name of Capt. Carpenter. The year following in 1780 enlisted in July for the term of three months served in Capt. Levy Ely's' Company of West Springfield and Colo. Brown's Regiment of Pittsfield Mass…I was in a severe battle with the British Indians and refugees. Colo. Brown was killed, Capt. Ely was killed, we lost 17 killed out of our company that was but 40 of us…If you think we entitled to a pension for my services and in risking my life in the defense of my country it would be received with a thankful heart…"

We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.
