Jonathan Clapp (1713-1782) was a major in the Revolutionary War who signed up to serve at the age of 63, under Colonel Seth Pomeroy. The service must have been too strenuous for him because he resigned a year later due to his age, just before the Battle of Bennington. His son Benjamin, himself almost 40 years old, was also in the army as a quartermaster, but Jonathan called upon him to quit as well, telling him he needed Benjamin home to take care of him.

Benjamin Clapp (1738-1815) was a quartermaster in the Revolutionary War and is the son of Major Jonathan Clapp. Benjamin served under his father, handling supplies.
