Rufus Putnam (1738-1824) was born in Sutton, Massachusetts and served as a military officer in the French and Indian War and the American Revolutionary War. Before enlisting in a Massachusetts regiment early in the Revolutionary War, Putnam worked as a millwright, farmer, and surveyor. He was appointed Chief of Engineers of the Works of New York General George Washington. Subsequently promoted to the rank of colonel, Putnam was responsible for the building of fortifications in Rhode Island and New York. He commanded two regiments at the Battle of Saratoga (September-October 1777) and, in 1778, he commanded a regiment under Major General Anthony Wayne. He reached the rank of brigadier general.

Zechariah Watkins (1741-1826) was born in Stoughton, Massachusetts and served as a lieutenant in Ezra Wood's Regiment.

Ezra Wood (1726-1815) was born in Mendon, Middlesex County, Massachusetts and served as a colonel of the Massachusetts militia from 1775 to 1779. The date of this payroll marked the end date of an eight-month enlistment of his regiment. He died in Worcester, Massachusetts.
